What is EarningsTape?

EarningsTape is a real-time monitor for U.S. public-company earnings releases. Every weekday — from pre-market hours through after-market close — publicly traded companies in the United States file form 8-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) the moment they announce quarterly results. EarningsTape watches that filing stream live, parses the earnings press release attached to each filing, and surfaces the headline numbers (EPS and revenue) on this page seconds after they become public.

The site groups filings into three windows so you can read the tape the way professional traders do: Before Market Open (filed before 9:30 a.m. ET), After Market Close (filed after 4:00 p.m. ET), and Intraday (filed while the market is open). The table updates automatically every few seconds without a page refresh.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an 8-K filing?

Form 8-K is a report that U.S. public companies must file with the SEC to announce major events that shareholders should know about. One of those events — covered by Item 2.02 (Results of Operations and Financial Condition) — is the release of quarterly or annual earnings. EarningsTape filters the live 8-K feed for filings that include Item 2.02 and ignores everything else.

How does the parsing work?

Each 8-K that contains Item 2.02 also includes an exhibit — almost always the company's official earnings press release in HTML. EarningsTape fetches that exhibit, strips formatting, and runs a series of pattern matchers to locate the headline diluted EPS figure and the total revenue figure. Numbers are normalized (millions / billions converted to dollars) and shown in the table.

Why is some EPS or revenue data missing?

Earnings press releases are written by humans, not standardized forms. Some companies bury the headline number deep in narrative paragraphs, or report only adjusted/non-GAAP figures with unusual phrasing. When the parser can't find a high-confidence match, the field is shown as a dash and the row is tagged no-match. The 8-K link and the original press release are always linked so you can read the raw source.

How real-time is the data?

The backend polls the SEC EDGAR live filings feed every 12 seconds. New 8-K filings with Item 2.02 are picked up within that window, and the press-release exhibit is fetched and parsed in the background. From the moment SEC publishes a filing to the moment it appears on EarningsTape is typically under 30 seconds.

Is this investment advice?

No. EarningsTape is a free informational tool that mirrors public SEC data faster than most news sources. Always verify numbers against the official filing before making any financial decision, and consult a licensed financial advisor. See our disclaimer for full details.
